Do you think that each person possesses a
"true or real" self?

Each person possesses a “true self” but my understanding of it is as follows. There are multiple selves (not a singular) that comes together to form the “true self”. Hence it takes human years to figure out who they are but really it took them years to integrate all the selves.

We are different in different contexts which means a new self in each context or setting. In a relationship we may be multiple selves because we feel safe emotionally to express those selves.

From early theories, we learned about the I-self and Me-self. That tell us how there is not one singular self. Each self is multidimensional. The true self appears when all the selves are united. There is no longer acceptance and rejection of oneself or the other.

To be the true self, we have to be open to consistently working through our fears and triggers, because we are constantly accommodating others or trying to survive or thrive in a situation.

Moreover, we can only know our selves by looking through the mirrors around us, self-assessing through our social, romantic, and professional relationships.

Therefore, there is always an influence from the external world on the internal self. In those cases, the self in that situation can determine if she wants to be what they want her to be or is she going to be what they think she should be. Or she can choose to refuse those projections and influences and be her true self which may make her and others uncomfortable.

Either way, we are always operating from a self, we can make a conscious effort to choose to operate from a different self that is more authentic to how we feel versus how we makes others feel.
How to
Understand the
Body?
Your body is always speaking to you through cues, signs, symptoms, pains, and visible manifestation of the buildup underneath the layers of skin.

You don't just wake up randomly with a swore throat.
You don't suddenly have a back pain that came without any injury.
You don't develop psoriasis, acne or skin conditions because of genetics.
You don't get swollen feet because you have not been exercising enough.
You don't gain weight *mainly* around your stomach area because you have been eating too much lately.
You don't look swollen on your face because you just have a round face.

Intimacy starts with you!
Your body is the bridge between the physical and spiritual realm. Your body is always speaking to you about what it is going within your inner realm (your connection with the spiritual realm). However, it is easier to turn a blind eye to it or pretend to not hear. How do you want to have intimate relationship (friendship, love, mentorship) when you - yourself - do not have a good relationship with you (& your body)? You are the mirror. You are the teacher. You teach the world how to treat you. It begins with you. It starts within.
